FIRST STEP: the usage of tools which help counting

The description of tool
Reconstruction/tool
At first they used objects to count. Signs were drawn into sand with finger or an object (a piece of twig, flat pebble, etc.)
The soft clay was very good helper in counting.  They pressed signs with finger into soft clay. Szintén ujjal vagy eszközzel a puha agyagba jeleket nyomtak.

Later they used clay boards, which were dried and baked.

The signs which were  scratched in wood, bones or the walls of caves fixed the quantities more permanently.   The usage of scored stick followed our history for a long time.

The scored stick could be more simple when the notch was carved into an unworked twig but it could be a masterpiece as the scored stick from Debrecen.

Who thought that this method is such an old one in noting numbers down.
Knots were tied on objects which were made of fibres, leather straps, etc.
The animal keeping required the counting of animals.  When they let out the animals they put a pebble into a bowl after every animal which left the sheepfold. When the animals came back they took out a pebble from the bowl after every animal went into the sheepfold. This way they counld count the animals.
